More

In our over zealous modern day society we seek 'more' as a way of everyday living. 'More' has become not only a way of life but something that is viewed as down right deserved. We eat excessively, seek continuous entertainment through various mediums, and we tend to buy with extreme lack of reserve or self control. We even offset our excesses excessively with 24 hour gyms, 24 hour tech support and 24 hour Walmarts. Burger King is no longer the only place where you can have it your way. You can now successfully push yourself to excess around the clock without a single moment of denial. How does one made of 'but dust' conquer such delirious distraction? Boredom now only exists in nano-seconds, generally encountered while going from one electronic device to the other. We are raising a generation that craves instant gratification and excess to the point of delusion. Eye contact, spelling bees, good communication skills are rapidly becoming icons of the past. Why talk when you can simply text? Why learn to spell, or even correct spelling for that matter, when your computer will do it for you? Why meet in person when you can sit in your jammies and touch base on Facebook? Its all there, ALL of it, for the taking...so why not just take it? Many will. Some won't. "Be still and know that I Am God". Listen to the quiet voice which calls not out of the earthquake, wind or fire but out of the silence. How can we possibly hear His voice in the manufactured chaos we surround ourselves with? How can we draw near to Him when there is so much obstructing the way? How can we stand face to face with ourselves and sense the conviction of the Holy Spirit when our flesh is drunk with excessive overload? I believe John the Baptist said it best when he stated, "He must increase but I must decrease." John 3:30

  1. So true. And so very very convicting. This pregnancy has offered many changes in life, but one I am happy to embrace has been the overwhelming DESIRE to downsize. Do I use it? Toss it! Do I need it? Toss it! Does it help us? Toss it! I hope that the desire to empty out our little home will spread more and more into the hearts that live here. Decrease for Him to increase!! What an excellent reminder and exhortation!

  2. I'm so excited that the Lord is convicting all three of us right now to be better stewards of our homes and 'stuff'. I so need the accountability in my day to day life!

    Love you both!

  5. Does that make us convicts? Haha! I hope not. We want Peaches born in a hospital not an infirmary. Can't wait to know she is here.
